Volcanic Eruption in the Canaries. No I do not think so.
Article added 08/10/2011
Despite a large retinue of foreign news reporters in El Hierro, the authorities are not really expecting an eruption that will disrupt the island in any way. All the movements have been confined to an area off the coast and at a considerable depth. The official communication said that even if there was a slight eruption, this would happen so slowly that there would be more than enough time to move people to a safer area of the island. Being a volcanic archipelago there are a few seismic movements, and most of the time these go unnoticed by everyone, but every now and then one is noticed and the public become a little alarmed. Of all the more than 9,000 movements that have happened in El Hierro over the last 2 months, only 3 or 4 have been sufficiently large to have affected the lives of the residents in any way. So not to worry, you can still pack your bikinis, suntan and towel and pop over for a quick break.
