Starmus Festival

Between 20 and 25 June 2011, the STARMUS FESTIVAL is to be held here, and with trips to La Palma. The festival is a unique scientific, artistic and musical event that will also make an additional attraction to the touristic and astronomical paradise on the island in 2011. The Canaries are famous for the hotels, of all types, and the most of the most advanced astronomical observatories in the world. The festival has been engineered by Dr. Garik Israelian, an astrophysicist at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (Canarian Astrophysics Institute, IAC) , and sponsored by several international scientific institutions and organizations. This Festival will have many recreational and informative activities with Astrophotography, space-art exhibitions, documentaries, star parties, talks and conferences. Part of the festivities will be in the Magma Arts and Congress Hall with a concert by the band Tangerine Dream. There will also be trips to the observatories in the neighbouring island of La Palma, which is just as beautiful as this island. The timing of the Festival was important, as it will also honour the legendary Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who became the first man in space on 12 April, 1961. This ceremony will be held in the Magma Art & Congress Hall, in the presence of leading astronauts and scientists.
