Danza de los Enanos, La Palma

The famous Danza de los Enanos (Dance of the Dwarves) in the celebration of the Bajada de la Virgen (Our Lady’s Descent) takes place this Thursday 15th July. These celebrations are held every 5 years and the image of La Virgen de las Nieves (Our Lady of the Snows) is brought down from her sanctuary in the hills. Various festivities are held, together with church services and popular celebrations amongst which is the Danza de los Enanos, which is greatly loved by adults and children alike. Once all the celebrations and acts are over the Virgen is taken up to her sanctuary again until the next journey down in five years time.
